Rebecca Minkoff Hot Red ‘Elle’ Mini Bag Review

I already had a Scarlet Elle bag with gold hardware once, but I wasn’t bonding with it.. Mostly because of my expectations vs the actual bag coloring. So when Rebecca Minkoff came out with a silver hardware version, I decided to try for it again. And I have to say I do like the ‘Hot Red’ version of Elle much better.

Rebecca Minkoff Elle mini bag

The main color is as intense, but the hue is cooler toned comparing to the first bag which was warmer, more orangish red. It is not the neon type of color that literally hurts your eyes when you look at it, but it’s still striking enough.

The closure is something I preferred in the first bag though.. It’s finished with a piece of leather glued to the buckle.. I guess it’s only a matter of time until the leather begins to peel / gets damaged. Should’ve been finished with something more durable.

It is lined with dull black fabric, inside there is just one zipperless compartment.

And there is a zippered pocket in the back:

On the sides there are working zippers which extend the purse

The strap length is adjustable:

I can’t seem to shake off the feeling that it’s more bulky and oversized than it should be, but again I’m a fan of smaller sized purses. Obviously, if you zip up the zippers on the sides it will appear smaller, but that would make the purse look kinda squished, so I have a feeling the zippers are mostly decorative rather than practical.

Another thing I don’t really like is how heavy it is.. It weighs almost 0.8kg (1.76pounds) when it’s empty. But guess it’s only logical if you want all that cool extra stuff like studs, chunky hardware and zipper tassels, you have to carry it around as well.

The construction of the bag feels very sturdy, I like bags which look the same when they are full and when they are empty.. the front side might get bent a bit if you store it empty for a while..but it’s still not the soft leather type bag which loses its shape way too easily

The bag retails for $395, which I think is a bit on the overpriced side.. its sale/secondary market price anywhere between $100-250 feels just about right when it comes to quality and just overall feel to it.

Not Another Floral Dress

Miss Selfridge Floral Dress, Karen Millen white signature jacket

This Miss Selfridge dress will probably be my last floral printed clothing item.. if not ever, then at least this year. I keep seeing too much floral print everywhere and that is uninspiring:p
And yep, I am aware I’m wearing it wrong, it’s supposed to be a bardot fit that goes around the shoulders, but that thing is just too tight despite being a size up, so I just treat it as an oddly shaped collar.

Karen Millen white biker jacket

And so I did find the perfect white leather jacket. It’s an identical one to my burgundy Karen Millen jacket from this post.. even though I wasn’t too happy about having two of exact same jackets just in different colors, I knew I wouldn’t find anything better than this anyways.
This one is also a limited edition, but with a slightly bigger run (463 pieces). It got a bit washed out on most of the pictures, so you can’t really see much of its detail, but in person it looks really stunning. The color is true white which matches my JC Scully shoes perfectly.

Floral dress, scully platforms

And what can I say about Scullys.. I kinda hate walking in these.. wish they’d come with some padding, same platform but less of a heel..although on the other hand, they are real attention grabbers and they look amazing and they make me look so tall, so yeah, love hate relationship here.

Acquired Taste

Today’s outfit is not about the look, but more about the feel:p
I had a plan to go outside, but since it was rainy this weekend, I decided to try something at home instead.
And I was in mood for some heroin chic.. So I found a tube top that I’ve had for years, and yet it still had the tags on because I have a habit of not tying things on before buying them..So basically this is how I discovered that tube tops are just not right for me on so many levels, but at least it was perfect to pull off that messed up anorexic look I was going for.

Black on Black

Asymetric Religion dress, biker vest

This time I went to Regents Park to take pictures. Funny how this turned out totally different from what I’d planned. From the location to the look itself.. My initial intention was to shoot near Regents Canal, but the light was still so dull there at 7, so I knew I just had to pass.. so I went to the park to look for a different spot.

I liked the light under this tree, so I thought I’d take a few shots and go look further, but instead I was stuck there for like over an hour.. there were plenty people passing by even that early, so I had to take alot of breaks.. In the process my tripod tripped over and my cam fell on the grass.. It was fine, but my lens pretty much broke.. the focus was getting stuck at some point, so I couldn’t take any closeups at all, only full body ones.. so that definitely was a buzzkill.. :/

I wasn’t planning on wearing the vest actually.. I just went out like that because it was cool in the morning, I had a more sophisticated vibe in mind, so I brought a clutch, but somehow it felt way out of place, so I didn’t pose with it. Guess the location dictates some of the aspects of the look as well.
But that’s cool anyways, I can do that idea some other time and when I find perfect shoes for it.

I’m wearing Religion dress that I just couldn’t pass up on for £22. Designers clearly didn’t skimp on the tulle, so I thought it was a pretty amazing deal. I love how it’s split into two lengths instead of gradually going from long to short.

Primrose Hill

Even though I’ve been playing around with photography for years, I actually have almost zero experience working outdoors.. I was pretty content with just taking selfportraits in a small home studio, but since I’ve moved to London, it became more and more tempting to go outside for pics because there were some gorgeous locations I was missing out on.
I do wish I had a sidekick who’d be able to take hundreds of properly composed photos of my outfits.. but since it’s not the case, I had to do it all by myself.
I know it’s not a big deal and all lookbookers do it, but I was actually terrified to do it for the first time.
I was paranoid someone would steal my camera or that ppl would stare or make dumb comments or that park patrol tells me to get the f outta there because the whole commercial/personal photography is a bit of a grey area (for some ‘tripod’ equals ‘commercial’ for which you have to buy a license for if you want to shoot in certain parts of the city)
So yeah, it took me a while to gather enough courage to do it..

So I decided to go to Primrose hill, which is a gorgeous place, especially for creative photography purposes.
Last time I was there on a Saturday noon and the place was just full, way too many people to even breathe.
So I thought that maybe if I go there very early on a Sunday morning it wouldn’t be as crowded. So when I got there at 7.20am, the park wasn’t completely empty, but at least people who were there were mostly joggers and dog walkers. I knew the premium spot on the top of the hill would be occupied, and screams of drunks yelling random songs from somewhere up high pretty much confirmed that theory, so I found a nice spot somewhere in between the trees. Even though there have been some occasional non-intrusive passers by, on most part it felt like I had the whole place to myself which was exactly what I wanted and I actually had fun taking the pics.. Sure, alot of it came out really awkward because I was still felt pretty anxious, but I’m just happy I finally did it:)

So about the outfit, I’m wearing Bebe dress that I got during the memorial day sale. It’s almost too colorful for me, but for some reason I actually loved the chaotic pattern and color scheme. Also wearing Ash sandals that I love to hate (got them for walking, but straps and buckles are in a very uncomfortable place, but still hoping to break them in..they cost too much to not wear them.)
