Acquired Taste

Today’s outfit is not about the look, but more about the feel:p
I had a plan to go outside, but since it was rainy this weekend, I decided to try something at home instead.
And I was in mood for some heroin chic.. So I found a tube top that I’ve had for years, and yet it still had the tags on because I have a habit of not tying things on before buying them..So basically this is how I discovered that tube tops are just not right for me on so many levels, but at least it was perfect to pull off that messed up anorexic look I was going for.

Black on Black

Asymetric Religion dress, biker vest

This time I went to Regents Park to take pictures. Funny how this turned out totally different from what I’d planned. From the location to the look itself.. My initial intention was to shoot near Regents Canal, but the light was still so dull there at 7, so I knew I just had to pass.. so I went to the park to look for a different spot.

I liked the light under this tree, so I thought I’d take a few shots and go look further, but instead I was stuck there for like over an hour.. there were plenty people passing by even that early, so I had to take alot of breaks.. In the process my tripod tripped over and my cam fell on the grass.. It was fine, but my lens pretty much broke.. the focus was getting stuck at some point, so I couldn’t take any closeups at all, only full body ones.. so that definitely was a buzzkill.. :/

I wasn’t planning on wearing the vest actually.. I just went out like that because it was cool in the morning, I had a more sophisticated vibe in mind, so I brought a clutch, but somehow it felt way out of place, so I didn’t pose with it. Guess the location dictates some of the aspects of the look as well.
But that’s cool anyways, I can do that idea some other time and when I find perfect shoes for it.

I’m wearing Religion dress that I just couldn’t pass up on for £22. Designers clearly didn’t skimp on the tulle, so I thought it was a pretty amazing deal. I love how it’s split into two lengths instead of gradually going from long to short.

Primrose Hill

Even though I’ve been playing around with photography for years, I actually have almost zero experience working outdoors.. I was pretty content with just taking selfportraits in a small home studio, but since I’ve moved to London, it became more and more tempting to go outside for pics because there were some gorgeous locations I was missing out on.
I do wish I had a sidekick who’d be able to take hundreds of properly composed photos of my outfits.. but since it’s not the case, I had to do it all by myself.
I know it’s not a big deal and all lookbookers do it, but I was actually terrified to do it for the first time.
I was paranoid someone would steal my camera or that ppl would stare or make dumb comments or that park patrol tells me to get the f outta there because the whole commercial/personal photography is a bit of a grey area (for some ‘tripod’ equals ‘commercial’ for which you have to buy a license for if you want to shoot in certain parts of the city)
So yeah, it took me a while to gather enough courage to do it..

So I decided to go to Primrose hill, which is a gorgeous place, especially for creative photography purposes.
Last time I was there on a Saturday noon and the place was just full, way too many people to even breathe.
So I thought that maybe if I go there very early on a Sunday morning it wouldn’t be as crowded. So when I got there at 7.20am, the park wasn’t completely empty, but at least people who were there were mostly joggers and dog walkers. I knew the premium spot on the top of the hill would be occupied, and screams of drunks yelling random songs from somewhere up high pretty much confirmed that theory, so I found a nice spot somewhere in between the trees. Even though there have been some occasional non-intrusive passers by, on most part it felt like I had the whole place to myself which was exactly what I wanted and I actually had fun taking the pics.. Sure, alot of it came out really awkward because I was still felt pretty anxious, but I’m just happy I finally did it:)

So about the outfit, I’m wearing Bebe dress that I got during the memorial day sale. It’s almost too colorful for me, but for some reason I actually loved the chaotic pattern and color scheme. Also wearing Ash sandals that I love to hate (got them for walking, but straps and buckles are in a very uncomfortable place, but still hoping to break them in..they cost too much to not wear them.)

Guilty Pleasure

Pastel Pink hair, black corset, jeffrey campbell scully

This may not be the most authentic representation of the everyday me, but whatever, it’s just something I like doing.. dress up and have some fun taking pictures:p

Pastel Goth style, pastel pink wig, black studded corset

So yep this look must’ve been somewhat pastel goth inspired, I like the style when it’s not too over the top

Hot Topic Corset, Bershka shorts, pink hair

Jeffrey Campbell Scully platforms, they seem to be selling out quickly, so I thought there’s no point in waiting till they go on sale.
Obviously not feeling very special about myself, as every blogger on the block has a pair, but I love them so much I don’t care.
It would be nice to have a back version too, but they’re so expensive here I’ll probably have to pass.

Jeffrey Campbell Scully Review

Jeffrey Campbell White Scully in boxj

These platforms are just mindblowingly awesome, so they were an absolute must have for me, despite being a little too popular lately.

Jeffrey Campbell Scully Platforms Jeffrey Campbell Scully heels

The color is snow white, not off white or ivory. One thing that bugs me is that sole rubber color is a little darker than the rest of the shoe.
They also come in all black and black with white sole versions:

Heels and sole seem rather scratch and dent prone, obviously the fact that they’re white doesn’t help.. It’s the case where numerous scratches and dirt will not add much charm to the shoe..

Comfortable or not, that’s a subjective matter. Even though they have a 2″ platform, you still end up with 4″ inch heels to walk on. One thing that helps is that the heel is very wide, keeps you very steady on the ground

I got them in US 7.5. Nasty Gal has a weird size conversion chart. According to it 7.5 translates to 38, but pretty much everywhere else it’s 37.5.. so as for 37.5 they’re true to size, might be a lil tight for 38

They are on the heavy side, each shoe weighs a bit over 700gr. The velcro strap can be removed, but given their weight, it does actually help them stay on

Supposedly they are a ‘knockoff’ of Stella McCartney ‘Kristy’ platforms.

stella mccartney kristy

I think Jeffrey Cambpell took a great idea and turned it into something even better. Of course the $800 ones will be less ‘rough around the edges’, but when it comes to the style itself, I think JC wins
In the meanwhile there are a few knockoffs of Scully out there:

River Island, £60 (sold out)
Truffle, £50 (sold out)

To sum it up:

+ Despite the thick platform, they are still high 4″ inch heels
+ Heels and soles aren’t very damage resistant
+ Mismatching color of rubber sole
+ A little heavy
+ Too mainstream:p

+ Chunky heel, so not shaky at all
+ True to size (imo)
+ Killer look

Heel Height: 6″ (15cm)
Platform height: 2″ (5cm)

Where to buy:

in US: SoleStruck, NastyGal, Jeffrey Campbell
In UK: most probably sold out in UK stores, so you can try looking on ebay. Jeffrey Campbell shoes are available at or, so you can keep an eye on these in case if they come back in stock.
